The previous Friday Jagex released the 30 second trailer of Desperate Measures which is the next major quest to be released on the 27th of July. The trailer encourages players to discover the secrets of the latest Archaeology ability, and fight to survive against monsters like dinosaurs, which will be introduced into RuneScape in the year 2019. and then protect the world from the menace of the hero who's "fallen to the dark side." Rsorder interviewed Jagex Director of Design David Osborne, Senior Games Designer Tim Fletcher, and Lead Content Developer James Crowther about Desperate Measures which will affect the game in the future and what it was like to create the update at home. The interview has been edited to ensure clarity.

Desperate Measures is the sequel to Desperate Times So what do players need to be aware of about the first game to get ready for what's to come following?

After the Endgame the player was brought in contact in front of the God known as the Elder Jas who is one Creators of all the Universe. Jas isn't sure about mortal lifebecause it was not considered a part of their grand plan and gave the player a deadline: "Prove that mortal life is worthy of existence, or we'll destroy it." The call was also echoed by others Elder Gods who were now awake.

In Desperate Times in the year 66. the god Seren set up an assembly of all the officials of Gielinor to address the threat of the gods of the older ones as well as their demands. Kerapac provided the council with plans to bring to sleep the Elder Gods back to sleep with the Needle, a time-controlling artifact. The plan required the help by the legendary Enchanter Charos who has disguised as the shy librarian Reldo for the last few years. With the help from Charos as well as Thok who is the World Guardian helps to transfer control of the Needle away from the previous owner, Gail, to Kerapac. When they do this they discover that Kerapac has betrayed them, and his plan is to take down all of the Elder Gods at the cost of the entire existence on Gielinor.

The show ended Desperate Time with the actor looking on while Kerapac was flying to Anachronia to start his evil scheme in the dark.

The game uses elements from the Archaeology ability in the quest. Players must dig up and restore historic artefacts dug up in the earth. However, Archaeology provides some of the main themes of the adventure, which is to uncover the past. The player will be investigating the untold background of Orthen and the dragonkin, gaining knowledge about the plot Kerapac has been up to, but as well as the long-standing history and the mysterious race of Gielinor.

RuneScape has provided a wide range of content which has been based on archaeological themes. The Archaeology skill actually provides us a series of consistent techniques to make new content that follows the same theme. This is fantastic.

Dragonkin have always been more technologically advanced than many other races. While I'm unable to provide details at this point but as part of the quest, you'll be able to learn about what they are used for and also interact with them in the course of the narrative.

The dragonkin escaped through the devastation of their world and also the birth of our own - an achievement of incredible technology and tenacity that the people of Gielinor can't even hope to rival.

The quest was in plan/synopsis form for a long time. As the team began the developing the entire thing began to flesh out the synopsis into an entire experience. They had to come up with how to prototype, design and implement unique gameplay elements, and discover ways to present the information from the high-level lore of the game in a way that is accessible and engaging.
